Our Purpose
The Wesley Inc. is Maryland nonprofit organization founded in 1867 to dedicated to serving older adults.
In 2022, the organization started a Continuing Care at Home (CCaH) program for people in Maryland. The leadership is committed to growing and supporting CCaH programs not only in Maryland but across the U.S. In 2025, The Wesley Inc. created Wesley Consulting to help organizations thinking about starting a CCaH program or needing extra support with their existing programs. Our deep experience in this area makes us well-equipped to assist. Our goal is to help everyone succeed and to see the CCaH industry grow, as more older adults choose to stay in their own homes.
What Is Continuing Care At Home (CCaH)?
A Life Plan Community Without Walls
Continuing Care at Home (CCaH) began in the late 1980s. Since then, about 40 programs have been created, giving older adults a different option from traditional retirement communities. Also known as a “retirement community without walls,” CCaH lets people stay in their own homes while still getting many of the same benefits offered in a life plan community.
These Benefits Often Include:
- Access to wellness centers, dining, and social activities
- Financial protection, similar to long-term care insurance or life care contracts
To join, members typically pay an entrance fee and a monthly fee, which helps cover the cost of care at home or in a facility if it’s ever needed.
Personalized Care & Program Goals
Enhancing Quality of Life and Independence
A key part of the CCaH model is the care or wellness coordinator. This person gets to know each member and builds a trusting relationship by:- Monitor the member’s health regularly
- Coordinate all care services
- Help relieve the burden on family and other caregivers
- Help people stay in their homes as they age Support independence
- Improve daily functioning
- Unlike long-term care insurance, which focuses on paying claims, CCaH focuses on actively managing care.
Oversight & Regulatory Considerations
Varying State Requirements and Nonprofit Mission Alignment
CCaH programs are not classified as long-term care insurance but often work alongside existing policies. The key difference is that insurance manages claims, while CCaH focuses on coordinating and delivering care. Most CCaH programs are operated by nonprofit organizations that use this model to expand their mission and reach more older adults. Oversight of these programs varies by state. Some, like Maryland and Pennsylvania, have specific agencies that regulate them, while others may not yet have the structure in place to support CCaH.Meet Amanda
